Yeah, it does look like those, or like he's someone trapped looking out of his (or somebody else's) own asshole--a sort of Universal Self portrait of humanity.
But, I was really, initially only imagining some sort of inflated plastic body, or something thick like glass wool or that pressed cotton they make carnival crap out of. And, note the hooves: they're facing forwards.
