My first computer coloring attempt of one of my illos. Using ArtRage Studio. Tho' it's the simplest program I have found so far, I haven't completely grasped the 'clean up' and 'layers' apps.
Excellent work! Colour really brings this critter to life even more so. Love the fact that your painting of him is also like that of your initial penciling & inking. Don't know what you artists call the use of 'white space' to separate the colours from the black lines, but I like it. Would make a pretty cool poster alongside something of Jed Alexander's actually.
Look forward seeing further pieces painted using ArtRage Studio. Great stuff!
Looks great! Looks like you had to carefully stay inside the lineart. Is their a multiply setting on ArtRage? Then you could put this layer on Multiply and you won't have to worry about doing anything so tedious.
Well, I probly just don't know what I'm doing yet. I actually colored a lot of it on different layers. With the line work layer as a guide. (The free download doesn't allow even that).
The scrolling and placement of the layers is confusing to me. And when I accidentally found what I thought was how to clean up, not only couldn't I find it again, what I did 'erase' left white streaks all over and I had to recolor.
Just having the layers jibe in the end was also an accident, so I left well enuff alone and called it 'finished'.
I'm better with a book to help me sort stuff out. Still need to read their help box some more...
Are you on PC? I think Paint Shop Pro 6 from 1999 is free abandonware these days, and it's snappy, runs on every flavor of Windows, and offers all the features you really need. Just pop your black line to another layer and color underneath like an animation cel. I still use it every day, sometimes with a mouse, sometimes a Wacom.
